Greenhouse gases contribute to global warming by trapping heat in the Earth's atmosphere. Over the past 150 years, human activities have been the primary driver of the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations. Today, the phrase tikkun olam is understood to mean “repairing the world,” and the term has broader implications regarding Jewish understanding of our purpose in the world and our relationship to God.
The term is understood in modern America as the idea that Jews are called upon to make the world more just, peaceful, tolerant, and equal, through acts of charity, kindness, and political action.
